Support and gratitude
Can you believe it? The fall semester is almost over.
In my previous blog, I shared some personal insights about how coming to this role has been an exciting — albeit unexpected — opportunity. These past few months have also brought new beginnings for our first-time students — a season in life that can be particularly challenging and overwhelming.
When I began my own academic journey at Bucks County Community College many years ago, you might say I lacked a clear sense of direction. (That’s putting it graciously.) Fortunately, I found myself in courses with exceptional professors who helped me discover my interests — what captured my imagination — which led to my major and guided me toward a career. To our first-time students, I hope you seek out those kinds of experiences in this first year and use them to shape your own path.
The dedicated faculty and staff at all PASSHE universities genuinely understand what it takes to inspire and support students throughout their college journey, especially engaging them beyond the classroom. With a wide range of services, including emergency financial aid and other dedicated student supports, universities empower students to thrive. Thanks to this unwavering support, our students achieve retention, progression, and completion rates that consistently exceed those of similar institutions nationwide. This reflects our shared commitment to student success and to the long-term health of our great commonwealth.
At the other end of the spectrum, I want to acknowledge those students who are reaching the end of their academic journey as they prepare to graduate. To you, I say congratulations on your achievement; you make all of us so proud.
As winter break approaches, let's embrace the festive spirit, express our gratitude, and look forward to the exciting adventures that await us in the new year.
Christopher M. Fiorentino, Ph.D.
Interim Chancellor
